Sewing with Simyra

Smyra is a designer / seamstress that has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. She is here now with us teaching our kids the basics of sewing. Our hope is to develop skills so that our kids can sell items such as cooking aprons, mits, gloved, etc., so that they may receive an income for their skills learned.

About Us

"A Special Place" was founded in 2012 for my son Troy. I wanted to create somewhere he could socialize and enjoy the "arts". Singing, dancing, drawing and being with friends is what he enjoys most. Creating friendships and performing to audiences gives everyone a chance to not only to feel good about themselves, but it becomes a gift to others. After we perform annually at our dinner/theater fundraising event, we take it out to others, who do not get a chance to enjoy many things in the community, such as Senior Centers and other living facilities.

A Special Place only exists with the support of others through financial contributions and those who volunteer their time. Let this be the beginning of something special that is supported by our entire community. Let our kids be the gift that keeps on giving.

Musical Instruments

Would you like to learn how to play an instrument? We have patient instructors available for you at all skill levels.

Participants will have a chance to perform in front of a large audience on stage as an opening act for our Buddy Theater.

Social Activities

Please join us for "Party Nights!"  We start each event with dinner, followed by games and fun. Games can consist of hanging out playing Wii or miniature golfing, depending on the time of the year.

Other events include a Halloween, Christmas, and SuperBowl parties.

Send us an e-mail and let us know that you want to be a part of this.

Buddy Theater

We are creating something new in theater. Our cast will consist of both special need individuals and peers on state. Our commitment is to have everyone working together to create friendships that will last a lifetime. The main characters of each production will be filled by those with disabilities and the supporting roles will be filled by peers. We believe that this will have an inspirational efect on those participating.

The group meets every Tuesday from 4:30-5:45 at Alleluia Church, 4055 Book Road in Naperville. Call and we'll add you to the cast.
